Nice to see you again! :)
Well, today I wanted to tell you about a principle that seems so utterly simple you may find yourself skipping over this post. But let me get you a glass of iced tea and you oblige Miss Mel, okay?
Before you start any baking, use a Mis En Place. It's not some weird kitchen gadget, for heaven's sake! It's a practice :)
Pronounced "mee zon plahs", it refers to the practice of having all of the ingredients ready and measured “in their place” before you begin the recipe. So if you have little ones underfoot, or your Mama calls long-distance, you can be sure your dessert will turn out right, no matter how long the interruption! Your best bet is to set all of the measured ingredients on your counter near the mixer. I set everything out in a row, in the order it needs to be added to the recipe. Using mis en place will keep you organized and you won't be fretting, wondering if you added the baking powder or not. You don't want to add that twice!
So try it out the next time you make dessert, heck, you can tell your family you used mis en place for the recipe! I bet they will think it tastes even better! We can keep the definition our little secret! Hah!
Happy Baking,
Melody
